These are the movies and TV shows US consumers have been most interested in over the previous month

It’s no surprise that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms attracted so much interest lately, being linked to the hugely popular Game of Thrones show. Thankfully, that is not the only reason it deserved the attention, being a rather good production in its own right. (Image: HBO)

Movie and TV show fans have never had it so good when it comes to the content options available for the consumer market: there are currently more than a dozen different streaming services delivering all kinds of movies or series straight to their TV sets, literally at the touch of a button. With that amount of new content being released every month, though, which films or TV shows are more likely to be worth each viewer’s precious time? Which movies or series are most people interested in knowing about?

That’s where JustWatch comes in. It’s a Web service designed to collect and present information on every film or TV show featured in practically all streaming services operating around the world today, in one place. Visitors can create a free account, pick their country of residence – content is often different in various regions – select the streaming services they are interested in and get recommendations based on their preferences and searches. Consumers can then use the JustWatch apps available for their Smart TV, streaming device, smartphone or tablet so as to always have new suggestions available on what’s hot on every streaming platform.

Based on user interest – as dictated by searches and recommendations – JustWatch is able to put together Top Ten charts of movies and TV shows across all streaming services operating in each country, every month. These are the films that consumers in the United States have been more interested in over the past few weeks.

March being the Academy Awards month in the minds of many, it’s only natural that the majority of films attracting consumer interest in February is nominated for one or more Oscars. It’s good to see that some interesting films not up for an award got some love too. (Image: JustWatch)

Based on the same information, these are the TV shows that consumers in the United States have shown the most interest in over the same period of time.

The latest seasons of established TV shows attracted much attention last month, making this chart rather predictable – leaving it to Wonder Man to provide the single most interesting surprise. Well-deserved, too. (Image: JustWatch)

Taking a look at the Top Ten Movies chart it’s clear to see that, naturally, we’re in full Academy Awards mode now: more than half of these entries are nominated for one or more Oscars and it will be interesting to see how the results of the ceremony will affect next month’s JustWatch chart. Luckily, Rental Family, Predator: Badlands and Eternity – none of which are up for any Academy Award – deserve anyone’s evening regardless… which is more than can be said for the empty spectacle that is The Running Man. Oh, well.

In terms of TV shows, things were rather predictable: just like last month, the latest seasons of Fallout, The Night Manager and The Pitt attracted the most interest – but A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms managed to sneak in too, proving the strength of the Game of Thrones brand once more. It’s good to see that The Lincoln Lawyer continues to deliver for Netflix, but it’s great to see that Wonder Man did the same for Disney Plus despite being an unconventional super hero show. It does feel like we need a few more of those regardless of genre, no?
