JustWatch Streaming Charts: September 2026

These are the movies and TV shows US consumers have been most interested in over the previous month

Backrooms
There have been quite a few great psychological thrillers deserving the attention of horror fans these last few years, but the direction, origins and backstory (huh) of Backrooms makes for a rather unique film. A cult classic in the making, this. (Image: A24)

Movie and TV show fans have never had it so good when it comes to the content options available for the consumer market: there are currently more than a dozen different streaming services delivering all kinds of movies or series straight to their TV sets, literally at the touch of a button. With that amount of new content being released every month, though, which films or TV shows are more likely to be worth each viewer’s precious time? Which movies or series are most people interested in knowing about?

That’s where JustWatch comes in. It’s a Web service designed to collect and present information on every film or TV show featured in practically all streaming services operating around the world today, in one place. Visitors can create a free account, pick their country of residence – content is often different in various regions – select the streaming services they are interested in and get recommendations based on their preferences and searches. Consumers can then use the JustWatch apps available for their Smart TV, streaming device, smartphone or tablet so as to always have new suggestions available on what’s hot on every streaming platform.

Based on user interest – as dictated by searches and recommendations – JustWatch is able to put together Top Ten charts of movies and TV shows across all streaming services operating in each country, every month. These are the films that consumers in the United States have been more interested in over the past few weeks.

This is exactly what a September Movie Top Ten should look like to home streaming fans: full of early summer blockbusters and enduring AAA winter/spring films. Until the biggest summer blockbusters arrive in a few weeks, that is. (Image: JustWatch)

Based on the same information, these are the TV shows that consumers in the United States have shown the most interest in over the same period of time.

Established series have no trouble keeping a lot of spots in this TV Shows Top Ten for themselves, but high-quality newcomers did not fail to impress either. A good mix of different types of shows ahead of the horror-focused October. (Image: JustWatch)

Taking a look at the Top Ten Movies chart makes one thing clear: truly good films have no trouble attracting interest for months on end, as Backrooms, Obsession and Project Hail Mary prove for yet another month. The window for early summer movies is now open for home streaming, so of course Supergirl, Toy Story 5 and The Mandalorian and Grogu get their own spot each. The original Practical Magic drew more than enough attention ahead of its sequel (it has just being released on digital storefronts) while both Mayday and Tuner proved that exclusively streamed films can often be quite interesting. A colorful month in terms of choice, ahead of the traditionally horror-centric October.

Things were decidedly more predictable when it comes to TV shows, as most spots were claimed by established series well into their third or fourth seasons, such as Reacher, Ted Lasso, Lioness, Silo and Slow Horses. It’s still great to see, though, that Lanterns got the top spot (it truly deserved it), that Widows Bay and Furious are still going strong (the latter debuted straight to Number 1 last month after all) and that The Gentlemen attracted enough attention to ensure it’s (officially) getting a third season at some point down the line. As for Chad Powers… people like what people like, all right? Don’t judge!
